Spring has Sprung… for reptiles too!

We’ve seen lots of cute and fluffy babies around recently, but did you know that it is baby season for our scaly friends too?
Reptiles run into many of the same issues that our furry and feathered pets encounter. These probems include egg binding, infection and nutrient deficiencies. We have had a number of snakes, lizards and turtles here at Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service recently who have suffered from reproductive complications. While some of these problems can be treated medically, others have required surgical intervention. For this very reason, it is so important that we know our pets’ normal behaviours and personalities, and seek help when these things change. While the symptoms may be subtle, most animals will show some sign of illness and at this point they need veterinary attention urgently.
If you are planning on breeding you pet reptiles this season, it is important to plan ahead, and ensure you give your pets and their babies the best start possible.
