Tyler the Bearded Dragon had his entire tail and two toes bitten off by his clutch mates when he was only a few weeks old and weighed only 5 grams! After the incident this little dragon was lucky enough to find his way into the very capable hands of one of BBEVS dedicated clients.

At BBEVS we frequently see reptiles with bite wounds and other injuries inflicted by their clutch or cage mates – we therefore recommend that these pets are housed in separate enclosures and that their interactions are meticulously monitored. Tyler had suffered quite extensive damage and there was concern that he might not fully recover. Possible complications included poor healing of the perineal area and strictures (abnormal narrowing of a bodily passage, in this case caused by formation of scar tissue) leading to an inability to defaecate. Tyler was placed on a course of antibiotics and some much needed anti-inflammatory and pain relief mediations.

Over the following four months we saw Tyler often at BBEVS for rechecks and weigh ins to ensure that he was growing and healing well. At his latest visit his pelvis stump had healed well, he was eating often, defaecating normally and weighed a very healthy 46 grams!
