Did you know that your bird’s moulted feathers could help a bird in need? ‘Imping’ is a process whereby moulted feathers are ‘transplanted’ into another birds wings or tail. Imping usually takes place after a less than ideal wing clip, following trauma leaving a bird with damaged feathers, or in birds suffering conditions preventing normal growth of their own beautiful feathers.
Replacing these damaged or lost feathers allows a bird to regain the ability to fly, preen and display other natural behaviours.
Imped feathers are often obtained from a bird of the same species, or of a similar size.
We are currently seeking feathers from all speceies, particularly medium sized birds such as Conures, Indian Ringnecks, Cockatiels, Corellas, Galahs, Quakers and similar.
