This little ridge-tailed monitor came to visit us a few weeks ago for a health check! Ridge tailed monitors are named for their strong tail that is covered in ridged scales. They use this as protection when they are hiding in crevices so no pesky predators can try to pull them out. Here little Rex is enjoying a bath (often required so we can get reptiles to give us a faecal sample and also good to help remove shedding skin) and some cuddles before getting a clean bill of health and heading home. He has a fair bit more growing to do, on average adults are around 55-70cm long.
