BBEVS and COVID-19

Hello lovely BBEVS clients!  We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well in these rapidly changing times.

We are currently open and continuing to provide care for the avian and exotic pets of Brisbane and surrounds. Due to the current climate we are currently only seeing appointments that are medically necessary (ie. Injured or unwell animals, or recheck appointments for ongoing case management). The Australian governing bodies have ruled the veterinary profession as an essential ongoing service that WILL NOT be shut down through this pandemic.  We do still need to comply with governmental recommendations regarding social distancing and have a number of policies and practices in place at the clinic to allow us to still operate safely.

We have split our staff into two teams, with no contact between each group.  This means that should one team become unwell, the other group can continue to care for you and your pets during our recovery. Our team are currently working 12+hr shifts to ensure we can maintain our normal opening hours, and provide continuity of care for your feathered, furred and scaled family as required.

To appropriately work within the laws regarding social distancing we are currently doing ‘Concierge Consulting’.  When booking an appointment with us our nursing team will advise you to call the clinic when you arrive in the car park. The vet is then notified of your arrival and will start your consult over the phone and then organise to collect your pet from you outside. We will examine your pet out the back in our hospital, with the assistance of our nurses. Once we are finished the examination, we will call you again to make a plan, and then we can return your pet to you in the reception area afterwards. This means we can minimise interpersonal contact, for you and us, and thus reduce risk.  You and your pet will still have our undivided attention for the duration of our assessment and planning!

We have implemented these measures to protect both your family, our family, and the greater community. We thank you for your understanding, respect and assistance as we all navigate our way through this challenging time.

If you are visiting our clinic, we also ask that you follow these guidelines;

🤧😷 If you are unwell, please arrange for a friend or family member to bring your pet to the clinic.
🚗Once you have called to advise you have arrived please wait outside or in your car until you are called for your appointment.
🙅😉Please adhere to the recommended 1.5m social distancing guidelines where possible and use the hand sanitisers provided
💳We encourage contactless payments where possible.  Please avoid paying by cash.
☎️If purchasing food, bedding, toys, or medications, please call us to pre-order.  We will be processing these payments over the phone and scheduling a time for you to collect your items to minimise your exposure to other people

Within our clinic, we are taking the following steps to protect everyone

🧻Increasing our already frequent disinfection of the consultation rooms
🧹Disinfecting our reception desk and eftpos machine between visitors
🤲Keeping our fingernails short and sanitizing our hands even more frequently than usual
🙅️Maintaining social distance of 1.5m wherever possible
👫Limiting the number of people in our reception area
👩️Checking and recording staff member’s temperatures at the start and end of each shift
🏠Ensuring sick staff members stay home

The staff at Brisbane Bird and Exotics Veterinary Service (BBEVS) offer an exclusive veterinary service for the owners of birds and exotic pets. From parrots to turtles, guinea pigs to lizards, our practice is specifically equipped and staffed to ensure that your pet receives the best care and treatment available.

At BBEVS, we believe that avian and exotic pet care requires a dynamic partnership between owners and veterinary staff, and we want to be on your team!

Birds, reptiles, small mammals (guinea pigs, rats and mice) and fish have specific requirements that differ to those of more traditional domestic pets and BBEVS is proud to cater to the special needs of our patients.
